Here are a few of my paintings. I describe my style as abstract realism. I try to give enough details that things are recognizable, but with some abstraction so that it can be interpreted individually. I credit Alyse with helping me explore this new way of thinking for me. For so many years, I have worked so diligently to make things real and found myself frustrated especially with color. Nothing seemed true. Also, walking through the St. Louis Botanical Gardens seeing Dale Chihuly’s glass works was an amazing experience. If he can use that much color in glass and come up with unconventional ways to display it, then surely I can try a little experimentation. I use pure watercolor. I rarely water it down. I want to see what happens when I place different textures into the paint. I love to see how the different pigments separate on the paper when I add water or alcohol or salt. It is fascinating. I find it is much more play than work.

I Karol,
I was going through e-mails, cleaning up a few, and found an e-mail from Ruthann that had the link to Muddy Waters that led me to your site. I love your paintings! I pray that all is well with you and your entire family. I stay in touch with Ruthann occasionally and always enjoy hearing from her.
